A big surprise at Red Bull Racing. It has been confirmed to GPblog that Helmut Marko has signed a new contract with Red Bull GMBH - the umbrella organisation. The Austrian (80) will stay with Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri for at least three more years.
The extension follows a lot of rumours about an impending farewell to Marko. At the end of 2023, Brazilian media reported that Marko was about to be fired because he would not get along with Red Bull's new management. Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away in 2022, and Marko were good friends and a new partnership was always concluded with a handshake.

Verstappen wanted to keep Marko

Last week Marko announced that he will remain active for Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri next season. And now there will be two more seasons. Max Verstappen has always indicated that he thought Marko should stay. The Dutchman still has a contract with Red Bull Racing until mid-2028.

Marko is an important cog in the team's development and success, and will continue to do so.
That's great news for RB fans.

Bad news for Perez tho ?

Yes, if he continues to drive like he did after Miami. In the end, everything depends only on him.

No driver's driving depends only on him. Name me a driver who doesn't have a personal trainer to deal with all the pressures that have little to do with driving skills.

If you are into tough love and think that Perez deserves the brow beating that Marko serves him at every turn that's a different story.

Fair point, haha, i totally forgotten that he had raced in F1 before.
Ironically, he has done just as many races as Nyck did.

Blimey RBC, Marko raced F1 in 1971-2 and has been with RB in F1 since 1999, how long will he need to wait before he becomes an insider ?!!??

Yeah, i was going to say the same, i think Ludizapoli meant that it is all up to Checo himself, not Marko.

And i do think that there's a bit of the good cop, bad cop, thing going on.
Marko is still a bit of an outsider in the F1 world, but his roots at Red Bull give him the position that he is in, and he can say whatever he wants.
He might not always say the best things, but yeah, it gives Horner the opportunity to be the middle man to that and comfort the drivers and team, which works in Horner's favor a lot since he doesn't have to be 'that guy' to the drivers and team.

"...As for Marko, we only hear the (rightious) criticism of which he opens up a bit in the media. We don't know what is being said behind closed doors..."

Aren't you a little too generous?

With Marko and Horner there is nothing "said behind closed doors." The men wouldn't know the value of discretion if it broke into their own house in broad daylight.

Personal trainer, personal assistent, physical therapist, psychologist, PR trainer and you can go on and on

In the end, there is only 1 man behind the wheel......and like Ludizapoli says, its all up to Perez

As for Marko, we only hear the (righteous) criticism of which he opens up a bit in the media. We don't know what is being said behind closed doors.
However, Marko and Horner often share similar views.......what we see in the media is a little bit of good cop, bad cop flow regarding Perez

That's good news for GP blog. At least one of the conversation point will be in F1 for a bit longer.
Bad news for the anti Marko clan on here.

Hope some of the 'senior drivers' around don't intend to be hanging around and still be driving at that age.

The Austrian (80) will stay with Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri for at least three more years.

That is if God doesn't make him cash in his chips before!

Highly unnecessary remark..

All remarks are unnecessary, for none of them have a single iota of influence on the Formula.

However, Leopold Stokowski, if the name means anything to you, at the age of 95, booked the Albert and Victoria Hall to conduct on his 100th birthday. But God had different schedule and "recruited" him well before the appointed concert.

A 3 years contract at the age of 80 has a high probability of not being fully served.

Just that you wouldn't feel bad about your post: I do not wish Marko any ill, but I do NOT like him!

I'm a street cleaner, and i have a colleague, well, more a retired volunteer, that is 103 years old.
He is slightly more conservative about his goals, his birthday is in early November, but since covid, he's been putting new papers on his disabled car that display his age at the end of August already, for bragging rights "just in case i don't make it".
But he still makes his rounds, picking up cardboard boxes at the local shops and delivers them to our depot, love that guy.

Hah, the old dog will hold on to that tasty bone for a bit longer.
I honestly did not expect a multi-year deal, i thought maybe 1 and then see where it goes from there.
Cool.
