2020 Russian Grand Prix: Hamilton penalty hands win to Bottas
A race that saw his teammate denied a shot at history, Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas was able to capitalise on a pair of pre-race penalties for Lewis Hamilton to earn his second win of the season at the Russian Grand Prix on Sunday. Taking the flag 7.729 seconds clear of second-placed Max Verstappen, Bottas won for the first time in nine races after pole-sitter and early leader Hamilton received two separate five-second penalties for performing illegal practice starts on his reconnaissance lap. Opting not to perform the usual practice start at the pit exit, Hamilton instead did so twice in areas FIA race director Michael Masi had outlawed in his event notes.
