Verstappen: Red Bull ‘too slow' to stop Mercedes

Despite his best efforts, Max Verstappen said Red Bull were just 'too slow' to deny Mercedes at the Styrian Grand Prix. Verstappen qualified P2, albeit 1.2s slower than pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton in the wet, and throughout the race they remained in that order with Hamilton controlling the gap. That was until the later stages when damage to Verstappen's front wing helped Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas close up and pass him for P2, making it a Mercedes 1-2 finish. And Verstappen said it was just 'not possible' to trouble Hamilton for the win, or deny Bottas. 'I tried but we are a bit too slow,' he said after the race.
