The legendary Sir Jack Brabham would have been 94 today

Sir Jack Brabham John Arthur “Jack” Brabham would have been 94 today. He was born on April 2 1926 in Hurstville in Sydney and worked in his father’s grocery store where he was driving delivery trucks by the age of 12. By 15 he had left regular school to work as a mechanic while studying mechanical engineering at night and soon after had developed his own business on his parents’ back veranda where he bought, repaired and sold motorcycles. A month after his 18th birthday, Brabham enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and despite wanting to become a pilot, had to settle for a position as a flight mechanic due to the wartime shortage – his pilots licence would come...
