Red Bull ‘still proud' of Sainz despite 2019 split

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has said the team are 'still proud' of Carlos Sainz and his achievements in the 2019 season. Sainz was part of the Red Bull programme and began his career with junior team Toro Rosso before heading out on loan to Renault. However, a seat alongside Max Verstappen with the senior team never materialised as Red Bull opted for Pierre Gasly to replace Daniel Ricciardo ahead of the 2019 campaign. Sainz instead headed for McLaren, where he will no doubt be on many driver of the year shortlists after a stellar season.
