Lewis Hamilton ranks 12th in highest-paid athlete list

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton has ranked 12th in Forbes annual highest-paid athlete list, with three Formula 1 drivers making an appearance. Hamilton raked in $51 million (£38m) according to Forbes, with Mercedes paying the four-time champion an annual salary including bonuses of $42m, whilst personal sponsorship brought in an additional $9m. Hamilton's total is dwarfed by those at the top of the list though, with Floyd Mayweather earning $285m (£212m) thanks to his recent fight with UFC champion Conor McGregor, who came in 4th on the list behind Lionel Messi (2nd with $111m) and Cristiano Ronaldo, third ($108m).
