Vettel: Reason for Mercedes’ upturn ‘straightforward’

Title contender Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel suspects Mercedes' remarkable pace in qualifying on Pirelli's softest compound is linked to changes to the tyre's tread depth for this weekend's race. Following blistering problems with tyres during pre-season testing at the newly-resurfaced Circuit de Catalunya, Pirelli have revised their tyres by reducing the amount of tread on the compounds for this weekend’s Spanish GP as well as the upcoming races in Britain and France. Asked why Mercedes, which so far this season has struggled on Pirelli's softest compounds, found more performance than Ferrari on the super-soft, Vettel said: 'I think it's pretty straightforward, the tyres are different....
