Ricciardo's road to a sensational Shanghai surprise

Daniel Ricciardo's road to a remarkable victory in the Chinese Grand Prix commenced on lap 35 of the race, when under safety car conditions his Red Bull team made an inspired strategy call to bring in both their cars for a set of fresh Pirelli soft tyres while the race leaders opted to stay out on ageing mediums. Ricciardo's memorable Shanghai story began a day earlier when his Renault engine ignited in FP3, whereupon the Red Bull crew got to work and a three-hour job was completed in half the time as they managed to get their driver out in the final minutes of Q1.
