Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo quickest in opening Bahrain F1 practice session

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo opened the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend on top as he clocked the quickest time during the first practice session on Friday afternoon. In hot and overcast conditions at Sakhir, Ricciardo moved ahead during the final part of the session with a lap of 1:31.060 on the Soft tyres. Mercedes had used the Softs to run 1-2, with Lewis Hamilton ahead of Valtteri Bottas, before Haas’ Romain Grosjean utilised the Supersofts to go fastest overall. Bottas, though, stormed clear on his next run – still on Softs – to sit nine-tenths clear of Hamilton, though Ferrari pair Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel closed in.
