Bottas unlocks Mercedes ‘very narrow window’
Valtteri Bottas says set-up changes to his Mercedes enabled him to find the “very narrow window” of optimum performance in the Japanese Grand Prix. The Finnish driver endured a nightmare race in Malaysia having struggling to find a comfortable set-up with his Mercedes and its new aerodynamics package but in the cooler conditions at Suzuka and with set-up experiments Bottas felt he rediscovered the sweet spot with his W08. Bottas had his race hampered by a gearbox change penalty but battled back to finish fourth, narrowly behind Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, and despite missing out on the rostrum for a second consecutive race he was content with the progress made.
