Silverstone triggers break clause; 2019 last British GP at circuit

The Silverstone Circuit and owners the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) have triggered a break clause in their contract with the owners of Formula 1, Liberty Media, meaning the track will no longer host the British Grand Prix after 2019 unless a new deal can be agreed. The Northamptonshire circuit, which hosted the first championship race in 1950, has been struggling financially to meet the £16.2 million fee it must pay Liberty Media to host the event. The BRDC made net loss of £7.6 million over last two years, which it cannot continue to sustain, having invested heavily in the circuit in recent years.
