Bite-size tech: Red Bull front brake drum
Red Bull has made further changes to its front brake duct layout, having revised the drums design in Italy already. The Marina Bay circuit is particularly aggressive on brakes and tyres as temperatures and humidity are already a factor before the cars turn a wheel. As such, all of the teams have made concessions with their designs and Red Bull is no exception. The drum has been opened up more to expose the crossover pipework (highlighted in yellow), allowing airflow collated by the brake duct inlet to mix with the heat radiated from the brake disc more than on the previous solution. This not only has an impact on cooling efficiency but also changes how the heat then radiates into the wheel...
