Nico Rosberg fends off Verstappen attack to take Belgian pole

Belgian Grand Prix – Mercedes' Nico Rosberg will start the race at Spa-Francorchamps from pole position, having managed to hold off Max Verstappen in a thrilling session. Track temperatures of 41 degrees greeted the drivers as the qualifying hour at Spa-Francorchamps began at 2pm local time. There were no surprise eliminations through Q1 and Q2, apart from the heavily penalised Lewis Hamilton & Fernando Alonso failing to move forward. Hamilton put in a single time in Q1, before returning to the pits and not coming out again and had to watch the rest of the hour from the sidelines.
