Verstappen surprised by gap to Mercedes

Max Verstappen admitted Red Bull did not expect to be so close to rival Mercedes as the team locked out the second row of the grid ahead of the German Grand Prix. Verstappen qualified in fourth position behind teammate Daniel Ricciardo, as the Red Bull duo finished around four tenths of a second behind pole-sitter Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes. Red Bull also qualified comfortably ahead of Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel. "Definitely on this track where we did not expect to be that close, we were quite close," said Verstappen.
