Mercedes withdraw Rosberg penalty appeal

British Grand Prix – Mercedes have withdrawn their appeal against Nico Rosberg’s ten second time penalty from the Silverstone race. The German was penalised for a breach of team radio regulations, dropping him from second to third behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. He reported a gearbox issue and was advised by his engineer to change modes on his steering wheel to minimise the impact of the problem. He was also told to avoid using seventh gear. Mercedes were able to prove that the switching of modes was to prevent an imminent car failure, for which no penalty was received.
