Rosberg penalised, drops to third place

Mercedes AMG Petronas Nico Rosberg has been handed a 10-second time penalty after stewards deemed that Mercedes had breached Article 27.1 of the Sporting Regulations and offered radio advise to the German at the British Grand Prix. Rosberg's car developed a gearbox problem during the closing stages at Silverstone and he was informed by Mercedes to avoid seventh gear, as well as to change to a different setting. Rosberg nursed his car home in second position but the 10 second sanction demotes him to third spot, behind Max Verstappen, and reduces his title advantage over Lewis Hamilton to one point.
