FIA tightens F1 tyre pressure checks

The FIA has increased its checks on minimum starting tyre pressures, with new tests being made by Pirelli engineers every time new or used tyres are fitted to each F1 car. With teams trying to optimise the rules with tyre pressures to gain any possible advantage, with many teams heating wheels to extreme temperatures before fitting wheels to lift tyre pressures when applied, the FIA has opted to clamp down on all tyre pressure checks. As a result, for the Austrian Grand Prix a Pirelli delegate will check minimum starting tyre pressures – as confirmed by the tyre manufacturer prior to every race – before any new or used tyres are applied to cars in every practice session, qualifying...
