Verstappen – We could have been P3
Grand Prix of Europe – Max Verstappen reckons that third was possible in qualifying, were it not for a squabble for track position with Williams’ Valtteri Bottas. In Q2 Bottas was in the slipstream of Verstappen at the start of the lap, before attempting to pass the Red Bull into the first corner. The pair very nearly made contact on the exit as Verstappen ran wide and the Finn came underneath him. An identical incident occurred at the end of Q2 when the session was resumed following the red flag period. Neither driver was able to improve their times after this.
