Jolyon Palmer set back by explosive puncture

Spanish Grand Prix – Renault's Jolyon Palmer has been left with a lot of catch-up work to do on Saturday, after having a tyre explode during FP2. Palmer sat out FP1 to hand over his Renault to reserve driver Esteban Ocon. The French driver only managed to put in 6 laps in total during the morning, due to encountering a problem with the right rear tyre. He never set a time due to being in and out of the pits. Palmer resumed his seat in the afternoon, but was also hampered by a tyre issue. Driving along the main straight and approaching Turn 1, the left rear tyre exploded at speed.
