Verstappen promotion with long-term future in mind - Horner

©WRi2 Red Bull team principal Christian Horner admits Max Verstappen’s promotion was necessary to kill off interest from rival teams. Verstappen has replaced Daniil Kvyat at Red Bull, with the Russian driver dropping back down to Toro Rosso for the rest of the season. While Horner admits it was “harsh” to replace Kvyat, he says the move was made with Red Bull’s “longer term options” regarding its driver line-up in mind. “Make no mistake about it, [Verstappen] is one of the hottest properties in Formula One at this present time,” Horner said. “It’s only natural that other teams will show interest in a driver that’s demonstrating his kind of ability and talent.
