Kvyat apologises for shunts, admits “It’s easy to attack me”

Daniil Kvyat has apologised for his driving errors on the opening lap of the Russian Grand Prix, which ruined not only his own race but those of teammate Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Kvyat explained that he locked his rear wheels under braking for Turn 2, which is why his car clattered into the back of Vettel’s Ferrari – which in turn hit Ricciardo’s car. “I didn’t expect him to slow down so much, and I started to press the brake pedal but there was no pressure left because when you lock the rear wheels, it gets out of control,” said Kvyat. “First contact came from that, second touch I was just behind and couldn’t see what was going on ahead.
