Mercedes spends first in-season engine tokens

Mercedes has elected to spend the first of its in-season development tokens at the Russian Grand Prix in a bid to improve its fuel system. With the team adamant that Ferrari is closer than many people believe, Mercedes has chosen to use the Sochi race to deliver tweaks to the fuel system of all its power units in a bid to keep hold of its advantage. The team confirmed that the changes, which have required the spending of two in-season engine tokens, are in a part of the engine that does not require an all-new power unit to be introduced.
