F1 lost one-third of its TV viewers since 2008
After controversial talk about the sport's falling audience, new figures have officially been released from the Formula One Management, which indicate the television audience fell by one-third since Lewis Hamilton's first championship winning year, in 2008. The published one-third loss in Formula 1 viewership equates to a loss of approximately 200 million viewers, in under eight years. Arguably, the most critical factor for this is the decline in on-track action, which started to become a serious concern after the technical regulation revamp, and little overtaking was seen; and it was the norm Mercedes who dominated almost every grand prix since 2014.
