Pirelli says FP1 problems not tyre related

Pirelli says that the issues suffered by Williams and Renault in first practice for the Chinese Grand Prix were not caused by failures of their tyres. Felipe Massa suffered two problems in the first session, with the left rear wheel coming off the rims. In the first incident, he spun off the track and a red flag had to be brought out to allow marshals to clear up debris that had been left on the track. Shortly after Massa had suffered a repeat failure – which the team suspects was caused by rim problems – Kevin Magnussen returned to the pits with a broken rear suspension and damaged tyre hanging off his car.
