Hamilton on pole in Australia

Lewis Hamilton will start the defence of his world title from pole position after dominating qualifying for the Australian GP. While the new qualifying format seemed to confuse and catch out some teams, Hamilton's position at the head of the field never seemed in doubt as he topped all three parts of qualifying. The world champion was over eight tenths clear of the first non-Mercedes car. Nico Rosberg secured a Silver Arrows front row lock out with his final lap in Q3 to leap ahead both of the Ferrari cars who had put the German under pressure after the initial runs.
