F1's knockout qualifying format approved

– Formula 1's proposed knockout qualifying format has been officially ratified for the upcoming campaign in its original set-up, after the latest meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) on Friday.Despite concerns raised by Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone that the required software would not be ready in time, the format "should" be introduced at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.Q1, Q2 and Q3 – in place since 2006 – will all remain under the revised qualifying scenario.Q1 will run for 16 minutes, with the slowest car eliminated after seven minutes, and another dropping out every 15 seconds after that point, with 15 drivers progressing to the second...
