F1 engine token system dropped for 2017 season 2017 Formula 1 will drop the engine token system permitting teams’ freedom to build up next components for their power units. The unsuccessful policy was introduced with the V6 engines in 2014. Currently, the engine providers running under limited upgrade process. Each engine unit element is valued at a certain number of “tokens”, with parts deemed to be more significant than the others worth the most. In 2016 manufacturers are sanctioned to spend up to 32 tokens on upgrades. However 2017 they will have freedom as the engine freezing token system is set to be scrapped.
