Maria Teresa De Filippis, 89, passes away
The first female F1 driver, Maria Teresa De Filippis, has died at the age of 89. De Filippis took part in four Grand Prix weekends in 1958, taking part in three. Her best result was a P10 at the Belgian Grand Prix in that year, the only race she managed to complete. Disillusioned by the deaths of friends in races, especially that of Jean Behra, she turned her back on racing to settle down and marry in 1960. She joined the International Club of Former F1 Grand Prix Drivers, becoming Vice-President in 1997. She was also a founding member of the Maserati Club in 2004 and went on to become its chairman. FormulaSpy would like to express our condolences to her family and friends.
