Verstappen up to eight penalty points after blue flags incident

Max Verstappen has been handed a post-race drive-through penalty for ignoring blue flags during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Toro Rosso driver was deemed to have impeded Lewis Hamilton when the Briton was about to lap him near the end of the race. The penalty means he has had 20 seconds added to his final race time, dropping from 12th to 16th in the final results. Verstappen was also handed a five-second penalty during the race for overtaking Jenson Button off the track. He was awarded one penalty point for that and two for the blue flags infraction, bringing his total to eight over a period of 12 months. Drivers who reach 12 penalty points are given a one-race ban.
