Magnussen: Shame it didn t work out
Kevin Magnussen has given his first response to the confirmation he has been released from his McLaren contract in order to pursue alternative options for 2016. A former McLaren development driver, Magnussen was promoted to a F1 race drive in 2014 after clinching the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 title, but lost his seat to Fernando Alonso for 2015 when the team made a swoop for the unexpectedly available two-time world champion. Having adopted a reserve and test driver role for 2015, Magnussen had harboured hopes of returning to a race drive for 2016, but the decision to retain Jenson Button – as well as the looming presence of highly-rated McLaren-backed Stoffel Vandoorne – has all but...
