Carlos Sainz rues mistake after collision with bollard

Japanese Grand Prix – Carlos Sainz has highlighted a mistake during the entry to the pit-lane as the main reason that he was unable to finish higher than 10th place, in what he describes as one of his best F1 races. The Spaniard had been running 9th, behind the Lotus of Pastor Maldonado when an attempted undercut on Lap 27 failed. Following an instruction to do the opposite of the Venezuelan at the end of the lap, Sainz incorrectly believed that Maldonado was pitting, only to observe the Lotus car continue down the main straight.
