Mercedes 'learned diddly-squat' after practice washout

Japanese Grand Prix – Mercedes AMG say all the important prep work for Sunday's race will have to take place in FP3, after the first two sessions were hit by heavy rain. Wet and intermediate tyre running meant that the team were limited to just 36 laps in total across the three hours of track time – 22 laps put in by Nico Rosberg and 14 for Lewis Hamilton. At the end of FP2, Rosberg was P2 just behind Daniil Kvyat with Hamilton sitting in P3.
