Sainz on course for Q3 until contact
Red Bull/Getty Images Carlos Sainz Jr. says that he was on course to secure a space in Q3 when he made contact with the wall on the exit of Turn 19, scuppering his lap. Sainz was attempting to join Toro Rosso team-mate Max Verstappen in the top 10 but slid wide in the final sector, clipping the wall and causing damage to his STR10. "We knew we had a car good enough to get into Q3 – my lap was actually three or four tenths quicker than the limit to get into the top 10," said Sainz, who will start from 14th position.
