Rossi confident he can out-qualify Stevens despite crash
Alexander Rossi says he won't dwell on crashing out of his first free practice session as an F1 driver, saying he is confident he can out-qualify team-mate Will Stevens on his debut in the Singapore Grand Prix. Having been signed as a replacement for Roberto Merhi for five of the remaining seven races, though GP2 front runner Rossi has competed in an FP1 session before – at Spa with Manor/Marussia in 2014 -, the Singapore FP1 sessions marks his first outing as an F1 driver. However, while the American was quickly up to speed in FP1 to prove a measure of new team-mate Stevens in terms of lap time, a mistake at turn 18 in the closing stages would see him end the session in the wall.
