McLaren and Red Bull teams face grid penalties before a wheel is turned at Monza. The McLaren duo look set to repeat their Spa strategy, both drivers undergoing a double engine change, which whilst incurring a massive penalty would also effectively give them three 'free' engines for use later in the season. Due to the power demands of the super-fast Monza circuit, Fernando Alonso has already admitted that he faces a difficult weekend, he and teammate Jenson Button having been with a (total) 55-place grid drop in Belgium.
