British GP: Hamilton beats Rosberg to Silverstone pole

Lewis Hamilton secured pole position for the British Grand Prix after beating Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg to the top spot in qualifying. The British driver outpaced the German by just 0.113 seconds to grab his 46th career pole and to move to third in the all-time ranking behind Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna. Rosberg had been quicker than Hamilton in Sector 1 of his final flyer, but he lost his chances in Sector 2 and had to settle for second, much to the delight of the British public. The Williams team emerged as Mercedes' closest challenger, with Felipe Massa in third ahead of Valtteri Bottas.
