Rosberg, Alonso pledge support to retain Monza

Nico Rosberg and Fernando Alonso say they would like to see the Italian Grand Prix at Monza remain on the Formula 1 calendar as the axe continues to swing over it. As the event organisers and the commercial rights holders struggle to create a new agreement beyond the current contract that concludes with the 2016 race, the threat of its removal from the schedule remains prominent. Indeed, Bernie Ecclestone has already cited the loss of the French Grand Prix and this year's withdrawal of the German Grand Prix as examples that heritage does not safeguard its place on the schedule, the F1 supremo making it clear that he is unwilling to negotiate on race hosting fees.
