Iranian government outlines plans to build F1 circuit
The government of Iran has announced that it is planning to build a Formula 1 circuit on an island in the Persian Gulf. Speaking on a visit to Qeshm Island earlier this week, the head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organisation (ICHHTO), Masoud Soltanifar, announced a plan to build a grand prix circuit in the region. 'Iran has so many young people with an increasing tendency for driving,” Soltanifar is quoted as saying by IRNA. “Formula 1 has a great future in Iran.' Soltanifar went on to say that the plan was to build 'the world’s most beautiful Formula 1 destination' on Qeshm Island, which has a population of 100,000 people.
