Maldonado, Hulkenberg and Perez pick up penalty points

Pastor Maldonado, Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez were all handed penalty points by the FIA following the Malaysian Grand Prix. The system was introduced last season. If a driver picks up 12 points in the space of 12 months, they will be given a one-race ban. Maldonado increased his tally to eight, after being handed three penalty points for 'failing to stay above the required time set by the FIA ECU during the deployment of the safety car'. The Lotus driver was also given a 10-second time penalty, which was served at his second pit stop. He retired from the race with nine laps remaining thanks to a braking issue.
