Alonso: McLaren move justified by Mercedes form

Fernando Alonso says the way Mercedes is dominating Formula 1 justifies his decision to move to McLaren, despite his struggles with the team. The Spaniard, in his first grand prix appearance with the Honda-powered car after missing the first race in Australia, qualified in 18th position, 2.5 seconds off the pace. It was Alonso's worst qualifying result since the 2010 Monaco Grand Prix. His former team Ferrari, meanwhile, was Mercedes' closest challenger, with Sebastian Vettel finishing in second place just 0.074 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton and ahead of Nico Rosberg.
