Former F1 driver Jean-Pierre Beltoise, 77, dies
Former Formula One driver Jean-Pierre Beltoise, who won his only race at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1972, has died after suffering two strokes at his holiday home in Dakar, Senegal. He was 77. The Frenchman raced in F1 from 1967 to 1974 with Matra and BRM collecting eight podiums in 84 appearances. He also partnered Jackie Stewart during the Scot's championship winning year in 1969. Beltoise started his racing career on two wheels and even raced in sportscars - notably in the Le Mans 24 Hours, where his best finish was a fourth place in 1969. He married compatriot Francois Cevert's sister Jacqueline, and fathered two sons who also delved into motorsport.
