Maldonado elated after first points of 2014 at Austin

Pastor Maldonado has ended the United States Grand Prix elated after finally managing to score his first points of the season, despite a frustrating year for Lotus. However, the Venezuelan’s two points were not attained without controversy out on track, as he was struck with a post-race five-second timed penalty after speeding in the pit-lane. Ultimately his penalty, the second of the afternoon after speeding under safety car conditions earlier in the race, dropped Maldonado down to tenth before Jean-Eric Vergne was also struck with a post-race penalty for his collision with the Venezuelan’s Lotus team-mate at turn one.
