Friday Focus – Imperious Mercedes continue to dominate

Even at this late stage of the season, Mercedes are still the team to beat. William Tyson looks further into the timesheets from FP2 to decipher a pecking order for the US GP. About five or so months ago, many of the top teams were optimistic of their chances of catching Mercedes – at least, to the press they were. Yet these months have passed and the Silver Arrows steam roller goes on, with FP2 times from the US GP show little sign of it slowing down. It is staggering to see that the team still hold a margin of roughly a second per lap at the Circuit of the Americas. Should we be surprised? Perhaps not, because development is still moving at a vast rate of knots as the grid prepares...
