Ecclestone: Grid could shrink to just 14 cars next season
+ Formula 1 could be down to just 14 cars on the grid next season, according to F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
With Caterham and Marussia both sliding into administration in recent weeks, just 18 cars will race at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix, the lowest number since the 2005 Monaco Grand Prix, a major cause for concern.
However, according to Ecclestone, the grid could shrink by another four cars over the winter, as teams battle to survive in the sport amidst mounting costs.
“It could go down to 14. If we lose another two teams that is what will happen,” Ecclestone told Sky Sports on Friday. “I can't predict if it won't or it will. But if it is 18, no drama at all....
