Santander chief Emilio Botin dies age 79

+ Santander chairman Emilio Botin, a Formula 1 enthusiast, and the driving force behind his company’s sponsorship of the Ferrari and McLaren teams has died at the age of 79. Botin oversaw the growth of Santander firm from a small local bank to the largest of its kind in Europe, and was behind the Spanish firm’s move into Formula 1 in 2007, as a sponsor of Fernando Alonso and McLaren, as well as a number of races.
