Rosberg edges Hamilton in first session

Mercedes AMG Petronas Championship leader Nico Rosberg edged out Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton during the first practice session ahead of this weekend’s German Grand Prix. Rosberg’s time of 1:19.131, set on the Prime compound tyres, was 0.065s quicker than Hamilton as the Mercedes duo locked out the top positions on a hot morning at Hockenheim. Fernando Alonso was third for Ferrari, 0.292s down on pacesetter Rosberg. Daniel Ricciardo set the fourth quickest time for Red Bull, ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button and reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel.
