18-inch tyres a 'big challenge' – Pic
Charles Pic says the 18-inch concept Pirelli tyres trialled on day two of the Silverstone in-season test will present a 'big challenge' for teams, should Formula 1 introduce them in the future.
The Frenchman became the first driver to test out the low-profile rubber at the wheel of the Lotus team's Renault-powered E22. He completed 14 laps on the tyres in the morning session, with Pirelli stressing that the running was purely for demonstration purposes.
His best time was five seconds slower than his nearest competitor. The Lotus third driver then moved on to the current 13-inch tyres for the afternoon session and added 24 more laps to his tally, ending the day 10th fastest.
