Ricciardo 'gobsmacked' by how track improved

Daniel Ricciardo says he is 'gobsmacked' by how much faster the track got at the end of qualifying for the 2014 F1 British Grand Prix. Ricciardo had been fourth after the first runs in the top-ten shootout, but like Toro Rosso duo Daniil Kvyat and Jean-Eric Vergne, the Australian elected not to go out a second time mistakenly believing that the track was now too wet. It ended up costing him dear, as the circuit improved substantially in the final sector, something that allowed his Red Bull team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, as well as eventual pole man, Nico Rosberg - plus Jenson Button, Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen - all to move forward, leaving him down in P8.
