Hamilton romps clear in first practice

Mercedes AMG Petronas Lewis Hamilton continued his strong form by setting the quickest time during the first free practice session ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix. Hamilton set a time of 1:27.023 late in the session to eclipse former team-mate Jenson Button by 0.868s. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was the only other driver to get within a second of Hamilton’s time as he edged out home favourite Fernando Alonso for third. Nico Rosberg was fifth despite completing only nine laps early on in the session as Mercedes investigated an ERS cooling issue in his car.
