FIA clarifies fuel flow situation

FIA head of drive-train Fabrice Lom addresses the media on Friday The FIA’s head of powertrain, Fabrice Lom explained that the absence of a fuel-flow limit would create dangerous situations given that teams would opt for a faster strategy at race start by using a “huge boost at the beginning of the straight then lift off” he said. “There will be very dangerous differences in speed on the same lap, with a driving style that is not really F1” explained Lom. Why a fuel flow limiter is used instead of a pop-off valve (like in the 1980’s) is that (while less complicated) it doesn’t fit in with the FIA’s strategy of fuel-saving – the key selling point of the 2014 formula.
